The cotton fibers in TC fabric are hydrophilic and can retain moisture from condensation, rain, or ambient humidity. This retained moisture creates an ideal environment for mold and mildew to develop, especially if the tent is packed away before it is fully dry.
2. Mitigation Through Polyester Blend:
The polyester portion of the blend improves the fabric’s resistance to moisture absorption compared to pure cotton canvas. This reduces—but does not eliminate—the likelihood of microbial growth. The tight weave structure of many TC fabrics also helps slow down moisture penetration.
